The Bowman Models company was founded around 1923. the founder was Geoffrey Jenkins.
In 1923 he applied for and received a patent which covered a design for the manufacture of Toy Steam Boats which he was manufacturing at the time.
Because the business was successful and held an important patent he was approached by Hobbies Ltd to start a joint venture. Hobbies had a well established business manufacturing woodworking equipment, they had extensive workshops and manufacturing facilities.
Together in the late 1920s Bowman and Hobbies manufactured a successful range of model Steam powered boats. before long the range extended to include stationary engines and locomotives made sometimes under the name Bowman, sometimes bearing the name Hobbies other names were also used.
By 1935 Mr Jenkins had found other interests and ceased the partnership with Hobbies Ltd who joined in 1938 with Malins Models. The Bowan name and Logo became dormant until 1947 when it was purchased by Piece Parts and Assemblies Ltd to manufacture a new range now known as the Luton Bowman s.
