Founded in 1936 by Geoffrey Malins in conjunction with Hobbies Ltd Mamod produced and still produce a range of Steam toys. The company remained in family hands up until 1980. The company has passed through several hands since but is still in production.
The definitive reference on the company is called "The Story of Mallins models" by P S Malins (ISBN 0 9529237 0 X) this is now a rare book and can fetch a high price when sold at online auction etc.
